Novelist Tommy Wallach & Unique Blends
Wines of the Night
The 2016 #23 Noir, a blend of Trousseau Noir, Gamay Noir and Pinot Noir, is pale ruby-purple in color with raspberry, black tea leaf and meaty suggestions over blueberry and red cherry scents. Medium-bodied, it fills the mouth with sweet boysenberry and red cherry preserves flavors with meaty and herbal accents, framed by fine-grained tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing long.
L.A. Lepiane Wines was founded by winemaker Alison Thomson in 2013 and she named the company in honor of her grandfather Luigi A. Lepiane, who emigrated to the U.S. from Piane Crati in Calabria. According to Thomson: "This blend was inspired by the time I spent making wine in Barolo, Italy. It is a 50/50 co-ferment of Barbera and Nebbiolo. The short cool fermentation kept the tannins in check and the fruit bright and appealing. This is a perfect warm weather wine."
Blended of 47% Syrah, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 3% Sangiovese and 2% Viognier, the 2014 Todos Proprietary Red Wine reveals a medium to deep garnet-purple color and a pronounced blackberries, blueberry pie and cassis-scented nose with an Indian spices and black pepper-laced undercurrent, plus a waft of lavender.
