Wines of the Night

2013 Solanara Vinas Viejas ($15)

Dark cherry-red color. Ripe fruit, pleasant wooden notes. Complex nose, spiced and elegant. On the palate is rich, balanced, with elegant sweet round tannins. Enjoy with strong-flavored dishes such as Cochinillo al horno or Roast suckling pig and cheeses, such as Manchego.

2015 San Se Sauvignon Blanc ($38) & 2014 Pinot Noir ($68)

The San Se Sauvignon Blanc is closer to Sancere and Loire-style Sauvignon Blanc. The use of both new French oak and neutral oak crates a full-bodied wine that can stand up to food but also drinks nicely on its own. The profile of the San Se Pinot Noir is restrained and elegant with a finish that has been beneficially augmented by the tanning structure of new French oak. We taste flavors of bright cherry and stone fruit.

2015 Four Brothers Syrah ($55)

This wine is a nice expression of that savory, raw-meaty quality that can so easily go wrong in a wine, but in this case it's nicely balanced with black fruit flavors that play beautifully and work just like berries with game. It’s lovely and carries over to the nose, which is redolent of blackberries and pepper.
