Pleasantly surprised by this delicious cab from Australia. Not dry, very fruity (Berry flavor and aroma is very strong). Forget sangria, put some fruits in it straight, chill and serve.

Would not pair with formal dinner. Should go great with dark bitter chocolate. And served by itself.

2014 Criterion Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia ($15)

Criterion is a so-called global brand, offering Italian Pinot Grigio, Rioja and Chianti Classico among other benchmarks. This Coonawarra Cabernet is surprisingly good given that background. It offers cherry, cassis and tobacco notes, medium body and silky tannins. Drink it over the next 5–8 years.

2013 Raidis Estate "Billy" Coonawarra ($27)           

Opaque dark red black colour with a very dark brick red hue. Aromas of red and blackcurrant laced with black olive merge into some earthy cedar and spicy tobacco notes. Medium bodied with ripe blackcurrant fruit to the fore there’s also nuances of earthy black olives, cedary tobacco characters and spice skirting around the edges. Dry, slightly bitter tannins. Aftertaste of spicy blackcurrants, black olive, some earth and cedary tobacco characters.
