Plump and luscious, this is jam-packed with fruit. Lively blackberry, pepper and other spice box aromas lead to ripe and rich flavors of black raspberry, caramel and licorice. There are more complex Zinfandels, but few that are more enjoyable to drink.
Biale Zinfandel “Rocky Ridge Vineyard” 2012
Napa Valley’s iconic Zinfandel producer gets fruit from Rockpile, northern Sonoma County, to make this special, complex, soul-satisfying Zin. We call this “Claret style” as its balance of fruit and spice is pristine. Big flavor and elegance both here. Smell and taste Marasca cherries, sandalwood, blueberries, lavender. This is more about intensity than girth.
Turley Frederick’s Vineyard Zinfandel 2011
This certified organic vineyard, owned by Dick Fredericks, was planted in 1937. Though technically within the Sonoma Valley appellation, the vineyard is actually located about 900 feet up along very steep contoured terraces. We feel lucky to work with this vineyard, as it is very rare to find hillside head-trained old vines. The wines are high in acid, bright, balanced, with well-integrated fruit & tannin.
